Happy New Year to all you lovely people out there!
I have spent an inordinate amount of time over the last couple of weeks looking at my forthcoming knitting projects. Maybe it’s the time off. Maybe it’s the cold weather. Maybe it’s the obscene amount of Baileys and Prosecco (although not together). Whatever it is I have spent far too much money over the last month on new project patterns.
With this in mind I thought I ought to do a recce of my current WIPs and see whether I have a snowballs chance in hell of getting any/all of my new pretties made.
Last year, in February, I had nothing on my needles except a filler pair of socks. Nothing! I know right?
I had made a pledge in 2016 to finish EVERYTHING that was half finished and, by gawd, I did! So come February I was on the lookout for a new big project that I would be faithful to (not including the socks as socks don’t really count, oui?) until the very last stitch was stitched and every end was sewn in.
I think because I had a complete blank canvas I struggled to choose my next project but, after a couple of weeks and about six tension squares I settled on Isla from Kim Hargreaves book “Grace”
It’s a huge jumper, almost a dress, and it’s two strands of mohair/silk and merino held together. Bliss! Baby pink. Perfection! Little needles. Oh! Never mind.
Anyway it’s extremely beautiful and I felt like I could be a faithful knitter to my perfect project.
I then knitted a jumper for my mum for her 65th and returned faithfully to the fluffy pink dream.
I then crocheted a baby blanket for a new mama and returned faithfully to my fluffy pink dream.
I then knitted an Erika Knight jumper in a super chunky (three weeks work!!!) and returned to my fluffy pink dream.
The came THE SUNSET HIGHWAY sweater.
That was it. Everything was thrown aside for it. I bought the pattern and cast it on on and the fluffy pink dream became a bundle in a bag at the back of the cupboard.
At this point I had convinced myself that most people have more than one project on the go at any one time. In my team I would say most of the chicks are knitting two or three side projects in case of boredom, new babies, Christmas/birthday gifts and “ooh I love that”can’t-resist-startitis. It’s normal. Enjoy that second project!!!
The trouble is, I then realized I loved Boyland Knitworks so much so I bought Camp Wilkerson. I then enjoyed top down Fairisle so much I bought Humulus by Isabell Kraemer. Then I saw the Dip-Dye Sweater by Camilla Vad and I bought that too!!! ARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!! Stop!!!
So here we are again. Lots of things started and bought and nothing being finished. With this in mind this is my plan of action.
Finish this hat.
Come on Laura; this is one evenings work. Just get on with it.
Finish the Sunset Highway.
Half a sleeve and no sewing up. Again, COME ON LAURA!
Unfortunately these are a bit tight around my chunky calves which is why they are floundering. Still, they’ll make a lovely gift for someone who DID stop eating for two when they had their kids! So, again, get a wriggle on!
Come on. She’s beautiful.
And that is my WIPs laid bare for you to judge
I have (unfortunately/fortunately??)bought the yarn for Camp Wilkerson
(hand dyed loveliness from a new indie Dyer coming to Wool in the spring )
the Dip Dye Sweater
(Italian baby alpaca from Adriafil)
(Rowan’s pure Wool worsted) so I must try not to get waylaid. It’ll be hard. Especially when hubs has asked several times for a Lopi sweater….. we shall see!
Anyway, tell me what you’ve got planned for 2018 and beyond. I love hearing what you’ve got on the needles and what’s going on in your head!
Wishing you a creative and happy year of making
Love Laura x
